To be in good condition – a scale

This scale will help you find the right bike tour for you!
The scale includes six condition levels from K0 to K5.

Different factors are considered during a bike tour:

  • the altitude difference
  • the steepness
  • the length of the steep spots
  • length of the tour

We do the maths for you. We always try to assess the “conditional difficulty” of the tour. For instance, let’s assume that a bike tour would be counted as K3 regarding the distance and as K1 regarding the altitude. In that case, we would consider the tour as a K2 tour.

Condition grade K0

Altitude difference: up to 400 meters
Slope: slight increases on firm ground <10%
Length of the steep spots: short
Length of the tour: > up to 20 km
Conclusion: no special condition required

Condition grade K1

Altitude difference: up to 1000 meters
Slope: slight to moderate increases with a firm and slightly random ground <15%
Length of the steep places: in addition to short steep places also longer and moderately steep passages
Length of the tour: up to 35 km
Conclusion: passable basic condition is needed

Condition grade K2

Altitude difference: up to 1500 meters
Slope: moderate to steep climbs even on loose terrains <20%
Length of the steep areas: there may be longer and lasting steep passages
Length of the tour: up to 50 km
Conclusion: good basic condition is needed

Condition grade K3

Altitude difference: up to 2000 meters
Slope: moderate to steep climbs even on loose or difficult terrain, short and very steep spots <25%
Length of the steep areas: maybe longer plus lasting steep passages
Length of the tour: up to 60 km
Conclusion: good basic condition is needed

Condition grade K4

Up to 3000 meters in altitude
Steepness: steep climbs even on loose terrain, many short and very steep spots, some extremely steep sections > 25%
Length of the steep areas: maybe longer plus lasting steep passages
Length of the tour: up to 90 km
Conclusion: special conditional prerequisites are needed

Condition grade K5

Altitude difference: 3000 meters in altitude
Steepness: steep climbs even on loose terrain, many short and very steep spots, some extremely steep sections > 25%
Length of the steep spots: long steep climbs even on difficult terrain, many short steep spots, some extremely steep sections
Length of the tour: > 90 km
Conclusion: only for very well trained cyclists
